The title for this project comes from an essay by Eugène Ionesco.
These photographs were all taken while staying in Assisi and Perugia, I noticed a great deal of bricked up walls and windows. I read that in the past, a tax was levied according to how many windows there were in a house, so people, particularly in poorer areas, were forced to brick some of their windows to avoid that. Whether true or not, I couldn't think of a better example of the passage of time.
